Local 36 was established in August 1939 to be the "exclusive bargaining representative" to all sworn employees of the District of Columbia Fire Department through the rank of captain. The Local currently seats six executive board members and over five dozen shop stewards. The shop stewards represent fire houses as well as administrative divisions. Several standing committees work to maintain your rights in areas such as safety, discipline, grievances, and legislative issues.
